Walnut stain (Vegetable stain for wood)

The walnut stain in crystals is made of Cassel extract. Of vegetable origin, Cassel extract has replaced the real walnut stain because of its scarcity and high cost. Cassel extract perfectly imitates walnut stain, which is why cabinetmakers, restorers and antique furniture reproducers use it to imitate antique finishes. Walnut stain is often used to give an aged look to new wood before applying milk paint (to show through in the finish). It can give walnut tones from light to dark depending on the number of coats applied or the amount of pigment diluted while allowing the wood grain to show through.
